Jason,

Deft is likely the most popular lacquer used from what I can tell. However, if you wish to move over to water-based products, the Enduro poly (not a lacquer) is quite popular.

Isn't hat a shelac?
I didn't realize Zinsser made a lacquer also.
Entirely different product.

Zinsser does not make a lacquer. They have shellac, poly and an alkyd varnish, but no lacquer.

Nils Rasmussen at CSUSA uses Master's Magic lacquer, but it might be hard to find. Deft is easy to find, both HD and Lowe's sell it.

Jason, I used to use Deft for many projects. In the early 90's due to pollution control laws they changed their formula. I don't use it any more. If I want to use lacquer I buy automotive finish lacquer. However you can only spray that. I have never tried to dip with that type of lacquer, it might work fine. It is to much work to get the sprayer out for a few pens. I will use enduro or CA finish for the pens.
