Well I've started the "kitless" journey. This weekend I made three mandrels and collars to aid in drilling, taping and closed end turning. I started drilling and taping PR and allumilite to gain a perspective on sizing combinations and practice. I hope to make a section this week and a pen by the month's end. Thanks to everyone for your posts, pictures and knowledge.

Excellent! I'm only just about finished with kitless #2 myself, but I already feel addicted:smile:. #1 went without a hitch and I thought it was going to be easy. #2 thinks otherwise! I've never had more fun being completely frustrated in my life:rolleyes:. Nothing like working an entire day to get a barrel JUST right, only to have the whole thing blow up when the parting tool catches. TWICE!!!. The second one also broke my mandrel I made. It's a Mothers' Day present - late now:redface:. Did I say this is fun?

Know what you mean - I've had fun just trying to figure the process out.
