Kinda Desperate Problem

I have found over the years that whenever I try to sell power tools on Craigslist or in a newspaper ad, I sell them almost instantly, usually to the first prospective buyers. This is not the case with my old but wonderful Radial Arm Saw. I have had it on Craigslist for several weeks -- no luck, not even a call. I have lowered the price to the point of practically giving it away. I even removed the price and said I would take a reasonable offer...nothing. I need to get something out of it.

It is huge and heavy so I really don't want to go with EBay.

Does anyone have any creative ideas?

Because of a serious back problem, I want to set up a lathe on a new bench so I can sit down but the darn saw is in the way. I just WANT TO TURN!!!

Radial arm saws don't seem to be selling well in my area either. I see the same listings repeated many times over.

I think many people are scared of the saws. Shame too, I love my Radial Arm.

With compound miter saws and sliding compound miters saws the old radial arm saws have pretty much been eliminated...unfortunately ( I have one in my way also ).

Are their any charities in your area that pick up items? We have a very active boy scout troop that has a huge sale one a year. During the year you can schedule a pick of your donated items. You may even be able to get a tax deduction for it.

I love radial arm saws - and I'm not an old guy. Haha

But they are not worth much money.

I had a craftsman that I sold on Craig's for $60 recently when I picked up a newer ridgid.

Speaking of these, I'm getting one of the old classic dewalt from a friend for free.

Over the years, RAS have gotten the same bad press as The Red Ryder BB gun... "You shoot your eye out/cut your hand off".

This bad press, coupled with the dramatic advances in cheaper compound sliding miter saws has just about made the radial saws extinct. I saw a Delta RAS in good shape for $15 on Craig's. I thought "hummmm.... That's a a decent price, what would I ever use it for, any more".

I had a figured walnut board I cut into pen blanks. The ras was awesome for this task. I just set a stop block and was good to go.

I'd like to have a good RAS in the shop. There are some jobs that these tools do very, very well and I have plenty of room.

You could donate it to Restore and the profits go to Habitat for Humanity. They might even pick it up.

There's a big one going up for auction tomorrow in town from a local lumber co.A 16" I believe.
