I and recently new to turning pens and I have been using the ca/blo finish method. I was watching a few videos today and I noticed that the ca glue everyone else uses is runny, with alot less viscosity then mine. The stuff I use is a gel.Maybe this is the reason why I am not getting a flawless finish, or do I just suck ,lol. This is the stuff I use here.(http://www.loctiteproducts.com/products/detail.asp?catid=15&subid=34&plid=195)

How do you keep it from sticking to the bushings?????

You can't, unless you use bushings made of Delrin.

I use the regular bushing and let CA stick to it. Just cut between the tube and bushing after. I also apply Johnson paste wax between the bushing and tube before turning.

For most materials i use medium the thin has the habit of wicking in between the bushing and the tube. If the wood is punky i use thin to harden it. I sometimes use thin after two layers of medium it seems to help cure the first two layers.

Actually waxing your bushing will prevent CA from sticking to them. Furthermore, medium CA doesn't really wick between your blank and your bushings. If you get minimal adhesion you can usually "crack" the blank from the bushing quite easily.
