How on earth could major league baseball think it's ok to change the words of our national anthem?
Shocking!
Shocking!
Hold up there Mr Smart007, it wasn't major league baseball that changed our anthem. The person that changed the anthem, was a singer in the group who wants the anthem changed. He sang louder than the other singers, just so that more people would hear his version. The musical group he belonged to, were very unhappy with what he did. So unhappy that they kicked him off of their group of singers, and that's no little thing.

Strange things can happen Andrew . Several years ago when the Edmonton Triple A ball club was playing its final game against a US opponent in the league , they had invited a local TV personality/singer to perform the US anthem . She was a dual citizen , having moved to Alberta in her early teens if I remember correctly . I think she got through the first line , then totally blanked on the words . Somewhat embarrassed silence in the stadium , with no one knowing what to do next . She did recover after a few minutes , to a standing ovation . A wonderful story the way she tells it , I only remember the outline .
You're speaking to many people of many different Countries, with many different National Anthems.
My understanding that Canada's version of the Right of Freedom of Speech is not as lenient as the USA. In the States the change could be considered Freedom of Speech. Then it becomes a case of we may not agree with it, but they also have their Rights to sing it like they want.

I'm sorry, but, I must disagree with you. Do you not remember the uproar that Rosanne Barr caused, when she slaughtered the U.S. national anthem at a ball game? And she did it because she didn't remember the words. This idiot singing the anthem the way he did, did it for political reasons. Are you trying to tell us that if this was done to Stars and Stripes, that there would be no backlash? I'm all for free speech, but, I'm not for gatherings being hijacked for political reasons. Especially a sports gathering, and in a foreign country that knows little of the issues in Canada.
