I have not posted any pens in a while so I thought I would show everyone that my lathe still is getting used.

I am working on a couple pens now so I should be able to post some in a week or so.

Thanks for looking.

Turning..? What is this "turning" that you speak of?
I still have the save one mounted on the lathe. Probably not round anymore, it should be really thin by the time I get that trimmed up.

Hey Mike!

Those are great! I really like the pierced one! Nice work! It makes me want to go turn a bowl!

Heck I did not know ficus grew big enough to turn. The *(#)($# things just litter my livinging room then die!

Very cool pattern you cut in that bowl. I would like to know how you did that!

LOL...in Asia, you can find ficus about 50 feet high. Some actually strangle big trees and literally choke them to death with their aerial roots. I've seen some in the jungles when I was young one in particular "killed" a 4 feet diameter tree and it must be really a long time ago since the dead tree is almost gone and only a few mushy pieces remain. There is basically a HUGE hole inside the ficus (where the tree was)!!! [:0]

Most pros that I have heard of that do piercing use something like this
http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/cgi-bin/shopper?preadd=action&key=139-0100

I just used a dremel with a handpiece with a small diamond coated bit. The wood needs to be pretty thin but I just mark the area to pierce with a pencil and jab the bit it and wiggle it around till it looks right.
Not sure how else to explain it.

Thanks for all of the kind words everyone.
