I thought the dye and mica finish came out really cool. The mica has a gunmetal color to it, so it looks pretty good with the gunmetal hardware, a little darker than this under normal indoor lighting. This is curly soft maple with several liberally applied layers of Keda dye. Finished with a couple layers of GluBoost medium with mica sprinkled on, then a couple layers of thin.

Despite squaring it off again to get the CA buildup off the ends of the blank as I usually do, I just couldn't get that nib section to seat against the barrel and didn't want to ruin it by pressing harder. Anyway, I'm not going to let it bother me. Really just showing you all the finish. I need some more curly maple. It takes dye really well.

Try some curly cottonwood. If you like how soft maple takes dye, you'll love cottonwood! I love keta dyes, but recently tried some alcohol based dye from CSUSA.
