Well this winter did not go quite as I planned. I had high hopes of getting some interesting and exciting new projects done not pen related this winter but that sort of took a different turn along the way. Dealing with a few family issues which always comes first but in the middle of working on a couple projects I decided to clean the shop and and organize things a bit better. After dropping tools on the floor as I worked abound my crowded work bench and even at the lathe, I decided enough is enough. So on a mission I put in some new shelves, hung plywood to accept some pegboard and different hangers and cleaned off 2 workbenches. Hung up all turning tools, sorted through some things that I will not be using ever again so will place on market place to sell. Also in the process I came across a bunch of turning stuff and some pen related that I am trying to put together and will be offering for sale here soon. I can say I am just about done with the organization stuff so this is a good thing. I will be shifting my attention to my house projects again as the nice weather is here. Have a bunch of staining of moldings and doors to do as well as finishing the living room and get ready for all the painting next year of all the rooms. Have just about everything spackled primed and ready for painting and then mounting of moldings and installing a bunch new doors.

But in the mean time I will get this stuff for sale as soon as possible here.

Hi John,

Sometimes when I get started organizing like that I get caught up in it and find it hard to decide when to stop. We started re-doing our kitchen about 4 weeks ago. Had half of the cabinets torn out and half of the floor replaced before one of our orders for stuff got held up. We are now at a standstill with a promise that our stuff will be here next week. Maybe it's been a good thing though, we have spent the last two weeks working outside, finally getting the garden expanded and planted and I replaced my pegboard wall in the garage with slatwall and have been reorganizing the garage.

I do have a pen ready to turn, but just haven't been able to get back in the swing of things.

Best regards,
Dave

Kitchen in a mess? My wife would use that as an excuse to eat out.

Dave I can underline every word you said to emphasis how true they are. I found it hard to stop. This is the same with my house. It started with a couple rooms, the kitchen and bathroom. Well that spilled over very quickly. The same with the shop. I was telling my brother today that I was so close to finishing the shop and then I come up with new ideas to add more shelves or start moving more things. I know the garage is the next reorganizing project for sure. Can not see the top of workbench. I need to sell off some tools that I pulled out of shop and other things that I collected last year and then I will have some room to work in there to start the organizing project.

I have a couple pen blanks I finished before I started the shop project so I should put on some kits and show them here to at least make me feel like I still make pens. :) I just bought another drill press table top with fence and all for my bench drill press. I liked the same one I put on my floor mounted one that I had to get another. Not sure how I ever did without them. My hap hazzard slop together one just was not cutting it any more. These work great. Little things. Put a nice set of rollers on my bandsaw that makes moving that thing a breeze now. Again should have done it years ago. I can go on and on.

Glad to know though I am not the only one with this problem.

I hear y'all! Besides building a storage shed so we can get some things out of the way, I've been dodging rain storms trying to re-caulk the outside of our house. Still have the second story to do and plan on replacing some older boards. Then gonna try to do some painting to the outside. Still haven't finished putting up bracing on my shop walls so I can eventually panel them to be able to build shelves. Lol Retirement is surely not boring. Lol

I have several projects that are all going on at the same time. Some were to be done earlier, but as stated, life gets in the way.
  • Redo the insulation in the attic (to avoid dealing with frozen pipes again this winter). Currently half of the attic contents is in the garage.
  • Expand the workshop in the basement for the new lathe. (removing a storage closet so now need to fins a place for everything that was in there).
  • Weather is nice so the garden needs to be worked on (tilled, new fencing to keep the rabbits out)
  • New landscaping around the house
  • And the general maintenance of the house exterior.
