Hi, I'm Trevor from Dunlap, IL (by Peoria, IL) I just wanted to introduce myself and share my story of how I got started.
It all started with a grill utensil set from Rockler. I figured it would be fun to make and was planning on doing flat work on it. But then, my wife and I were going to see here aunt and uncle, and I know he had picked up a lathe the previous year. I have been wanting to try out lathe work, but didn't want to buy the tools without trying it first. So I figured this would be a good way to try it out. So my grill utensil handles are round, Started with a pencil kit to practice before doing the handles, made a foot massager for my wife, and now I'm hooked on turning. You all can thank Bob (BoJo) for introducing me to the lathe and this site.
Hopefully in the next couple weeks I can get my lathe set up after it arrives on Tuesday along with a bunch of other stuff. But first I better finish the remodeling in the basement. Only drywall, painting, flooring and the ceiling left. Should be done by the end of the month. But then again, I probably won't wait to play with the new tools that long.
I've enjoyed reading everyone's post and found them to be more harmful then helpful (in a good way). Now Instead of making pens, I want to get into casting side of things and see if I can match the quality and creativity of what is out there. I think I'm too creative for my own good. Time to start the downward spiral of turning and trying to get the ideas out of my head and into pens.
Thanks,
Trevor
