Was very fortunate to spend the day with John at our AAW wood turning club (DAW...Detroit Area Woodturners). John turned a hollow vessel then offered texturing/ carving techniques.
His forms are stunning and "perfect" and I couldn't believe how smooth the finish was when he was done doing a "shearing" with his tools! I can hardly sand something that smooth.
If you have a chance to see him, do so, he's funny, too. Very good Demo.

That vessel on the lathe looks remarkably similar to his head! LOL!!!!!! I spent 2 days with John and Vicki, taking classes with John in late 1997. I bought a 24-36 Oneway Lathe from him a couple months latter. Made that one expensive class. Actually I was working for Woodworker's Journal at the time, and they paid for the class but not my lathe! He is a master of his trade, and even has a piece in the White House collection. Glad you had a nice time.
