My granddaughter texted me a few weeks ago and asked if I could make her a jewelry box. She wanted it all open inside. Here's the result. Birdseye maple, hard maple and Purple Heart.
The inlay is all done with a small router. The top frame had a slot cut in the middle for a piece of craft plywood to slide into, giving the top part, with the inlay to be glued to. The main box was re-saved down to about 5/8 and the thin pieces from doing that is what I used inside the top. I could have laid them either way but I thought it looked best the way I did it. I definitely like it well enough to do it this way again. My next one I'm going to give double dovetail splines a shot.Very nice as usual. Have to ask how you did the Yin Yang? Scrollsaw?? Another question, what did you do to the insert portion of the lid. I see the grain running opposite direction from top to bottom of that insert. If you sandwiched 2 pieces can I ask why? Thanks That is popular jewelry today.
If anyone interested. Yin Yang meaning.
