I use the mini lathe to drill holes into blanks. The tail stock crank has gotten harder and harder to turn. It has been taken apart, cleaned, oiled and put back together. It still does not turn as easily as it once did.
What has your experience been with these tail stock cranks on Jet Mini lathes???

I have the same issue as well. I take it completely apart, clean and put back together, but it binds up again after a few days. I think the issue with mine was one of those 'C' shaped snap or lock washers gets unseated somehow. I don't know how to permanently fix it. It's a pain though. I have to turn the wheel (or whatever you call it) a few times before the tailstock begins to extend. Again, I think it is all about that 'C' shaped snap washer. Mine is hard to turn no matter if I am doing something or just messing with it.
 
A friend's was that way too. He cleaned it and oiled it and polished it.. nothing helped. When I looked at it there were a couple of "bright spots" on the shaft. It turns out there was a slight dent in the shaft that had cause a high spot next to it. This high spot was binding under load. Took a fine file to it and it now glides very smoothly.

Extend your tailstock all the way and look for any spots on the shaft that are slightly more shiny then the rest. Remove it completely and look in the hole for any shiny spots.

You should replace the washer. They develop memory and if it isn't sitting properly, it never will. You should be able to get another and it should stop jumping out of it's slot.
 
Where would I get a washer. I probably should buy a back up belt as well. Anyone know where to get stuff for the jet mini online?
