With the baby, we never have time to work in what was the main shop (which is about thirty minutes away) and instead do everything in our home shop. Just the other day I was thinking that with all the shows that are coming fast and furious this time of year that if our lathe went down, we would be fairly well screwed.

Perhaps it would be smart to pick up a few of these components that tend to fail over time and have them on hand. Sort of like you do if you own a classic car.

Good thinking Steve. Get some tail stock screws. They do allot of work and no matter how much care you give them, they wear out.

I've gone through 3 of these on my 1014 non-VS... if the lathe is under 5 years old, this is a warranty part... Jet will send you one for free if you call them and file a claim...

I don't drill on the little lathe any more... too much trouble to change out the spindle screws... I use the big lathe as the spindle screw is heavier duty and has more travel -

Hmmmm, interesting. I wonder if by the serial number they can tell when it was manufactured. I guess it is worth a call. Thanks for the information.
