I am wanting to upgrade to a bigger lathe(for turning bigger bowls) and these 2 came up. I have heard great reviews on the Jet but dont know anything about the Grizzly(they look identical). Does anyone own the Grizzly of know someone who does. The difference in price is about $800.00. That could be spent on other toys! Thanks.

I had that grizzly. It worked great. Problem with it is the low rpm is kinda high for large unbalanced blanks. Also, you will probably want to replace that two piece banjo with the one from the other grizzly 16 inch. It seems like it flexes a little much. Ymmv:)

hated the grizzly

I don't comment much, but I hated that grizzly machine! I recently sold it on craigslist for about half what I paid for it because it was more trouble than it was worth. I ended up buying a Nova 1644--best decision!!

Nothing is wrong with my lathe. Just wanted a full size instead of a mini so i can turn bigger projects. Mine is only 1/3 hp. and bogs down on bigger pieces.

I have a W1758 the Shop Fox version of the G 0462, and I agree 550 to 600 is way too fast for any large piece of wood, That being said, Grizzly has had a mixed bag of casting problems as have most of the Chinese lathes. The 2 HP is nice, but I am in the boat that I want to dump the Shop Fox and get a Jet 1642 EVS. Also with a reevs drive wit belt wear your low speed keeps getting faster.

stay away from the 1442 jet
had one nothing but trouble
had to rebuild it 4 times in 2 years
got rid of it and got a nova 1624 best lathe i ever bought
have had it for 2 years now no problem with it best buy for the money
