With tomorrow's 15% discount sale at WC, I can get the Jet 14" deluxe band saw for about $620. Anyone have experience with this band saw and have a hot opinion about it?

I would follow Franks advice. I personally believe that buyers are paying for the name on the product. My Ridgid works good but I wish that I had known about Grizzly when I made my purchase. JMHO.

I concur with Frank and Mike. I have the 0555 with the riser and love it. IMHO, with Jet, you're paying for a name and the ability to have it "right now" vs waiting for a few days to have it delivered to your home.

Compare with this Grizzly http://www.grizzly.com/products/g0555
They are basically the same machine. Compare features there may be more for less money on the Griz.

Actually, that one is the smaller Grizzly (1 HP). The Jet I'm looking at (1 1/4 HP) compares to the larger Grizzly. And once I factor in shipping costs, the price for the Jet is less, but I don't get the adjustable fence. Or the nifty light.

I'm just wondering if there have been any performance issues with the Jet?

Going to WC myself tomorrow........'cept........I'm getting the RIKON 14" Deluxe band saw. My name is already on it, just gotta go and give them the cash.

Also got a couple of days ago a new RIKON 4" x 36" Belt/6" Disc Sander (model 50-110). Wanted a small one for the size of shop I have and it beats the Sears model hands down and for the same price.

Later.....

Andrew...I asked them about that and was told (at least by the sales guy there) the sale DOES apply to the big tools, as long as I pay for it prior to the end of the early bird time.

I'll give it a try at least.

Y'all were right. When I went to WC this morning, they wouldn't apply the additional 5% to the sale price. They apologized about the old-timer who told me wrong on Thursday when I asked point blank if the early bird sale applied to the machine. Argh!

So now I will take Frank, Mannie etal's suggestion and go with the Grizzly (http://www.grizzly.com/products/14-Extreme-Series-Bandsaw/G0555X) since they'll ship it right to my door and it has a slightly larger motor. The Grizz also comes with a resaw fence and miter gauge, but not the quick release tension that the Jet had.

The G0555X does have a tension quick release. Not mentioned in the ad copy but my G0555 has one. And the picture of the back of the X show it.

Frank...I noticed that too when I was studying the photos and specs after I posted. Wonder why they don't use that as a selling point? Another thing that I see that moves it ahead of the Jet is the attached table rail for the rip fence etal.

I'm going to order one this week. Can't wait to get it!

I bought a new bandsaw recently and that was one of the saws I considered. I wound up buying the Rikon 10-325 because it was just so much more saw for about the same price, plus it had the best resaw capacity of all the 14" saws I looked at. It is cutting some 12"walnut burl into veneer like it was pine. Nothing has slowed it down that I have tried yet and I have tried most everything.

Wish I had known this when I bought my 14"... I bought a Delta at Lowe's for about the same or less money then the Grizzly, but it didn't come with the fence which will run the price over the price of the Grizzly and I could really use a fence and the extension to raise the top wheel.

I'm not in the market right now for any new tools, but think I'll shop Grizzly first on any future machines.

Well, Brian, my friend, ....... I'm glad to see that you're planning ahead. Looks like you Astro fans are going to have a lot of time on your hands come Ocotber 22nd. On the other hand, look on the bright side. As of this afternoon, the Astros have a better record than the Braves.

And ...... when things grow even dimmer for the Astros ... just remember .... you have ol' Doc as an official IAP Friend! It doesn't get any better than that.
