So this is the 3rd set of bearings I have replaced in this lathe in about 3 years. I can deal with that as I use it a lot. They started getting a little noisy again so I decided to change them. They are immediately noisy again. Like from the moment I put them in they are making like a growling noise at all speeds. Everything spins nice and freely and smooth buy they are terribly noisy. Also I have noticed some of what appears to be bearing grease on the spindle wheel. My main question is on tightening the spindle wheel. I have read everywhere not to overtighten it. I tighten it down and back it off about 1/8th of a turn. I cant imagine I got 2 bad bearings fresh from VXB bearings. Anyone else experience this? This lathe seems to be notorious for going through bearings.
