Afternoon,
Looking around marketplace to find my first lathe, decided don't wanna put much into it in case don't stay with it.. already started Post about a different 12x21 Jet with accessories about 750.00 that's local to me and was told it would be good first lathe in pen turning thread here.
Anyway I came across this 1014 that has external capacitor and welded extension.. anyone ever seen anything like it? Or know reason why? If it runs good could it be good lathe purchase for $150.00. Then I'd get a chuck spindle jaws on marketplace hopefully cheap and for under cost of new lathe by itself? Or just better to stick with 12x21 that I have attached photos.. not sure I want to spend quite that much initially and might look at cheaper central machinery or delta Rockwell or off brand lathes, or as always you get what you pay for buy once cry once be happier with better lathe making better turning experience saying. Goal currently would be pen turning and some billy clubs as I've made 2 pens at Rockler before and bought a turned Billy club from a local gentlemen. Just don't wanna put bunch money out there and not stick with it if possible and could buy something not as expensive and still have enjoyable turning experience.
