It's very easy to underbuy when you are starting out. and very painful to have to spend the money again when you decide to try something just a little bigger. Go with the 14" Grizzly. In the long run you will get more satisfaction from it.

Bigger the better.. I have a 9" bandsaw.. great for making curved chair parts, etc but not great for any kind of resawing.

Get the biggest you can afford.

I needed a new mitersaw a year ago.. Had a 8" and wanted a 10".. went to the store with the plans on buying a cheaper 10".. after looking at them, came home with a 10" dual laser, dual bevel SCMS Paid about $200 more then I origionally planned.. but its something to last a long time.

Its cheaper to buy one bandsaw now that will last then to buy a cheap temp one, sell that cheaply down the road and buy another thats more expensive.. I wish I had. lol

Get the Grizzly, like you when I started out I did not intend to do any resawing. Just wanted a saw to cut my blanks and maybe segmenting. Then I found a pile of logs on the curb and guess what? Yup, had to get a new band saw so I could resaw.

Just looked at where your located, Your just a few hours from me, if you really want a small bandsaw I have the first one I bought and I'll give it to you, you just have to come and get it.

Well I went and look at the Ridgid 14" and it was not new it was one of the older gray ones made in 1998 does anybody know anything about this is it one of the ones they were having problems with. It look good and ran real good then i found out that the belt on the motor was not tight it had about 2" of play in it no big deal. he will let me have it for $200.00. It does not look like it has been used much.
