Amazing grain movement on this Japanese Chestnut blank. Harvested this wood about 11 years ago. Kit is a Sierra Vista.

The story is, a lady I knew where we used to live had the tree.
Her husband brought a seedling home from an overseas trip and planted it in their front yard. I am not sure if his trip was military or business. I also don't recall if the tree died or if she just got tired of the pods. Either way, I got some nice pen and bowl blanks.
