I know there are some other space geeks here who might find this interesting. The James Webb Space Telescope was launched on Christmas Day and is on the way to it's destination about a million miles from Earth. JWST is probably one of the most significant space science achievements ever, and sometime next summer we should be seeing some stunning images of the most distant objects and events ever seen.

There's a real-time tracker reporting some data as it makes its way to the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point.

And lots of interesting facts here:

What kind of lathe did they use?

Kidding!!

Seriously it's a great site and added to my favorites bar. Did you work on this?

I did not personally have any involvement. Some of my colleagues worked on various cryogenic system components. I traveled to Goddard Space Flight Center around 2006 for some unrelated work and I got a chance to see some of the instruments in development. It's an impressive achievement!

May have to start another separate forum for new pen designs and materials used when we get to meet some new turners from another planet.👻🌎🌙

Thanks for the links Jeff. I watched a good bit of the making of JWST on the Smithsonian channel last night. Truly amazing feat. And I can't wait to see what it finds out there.
