I made this Jr Statesman for the bash but it wasn't enough to win..

The aluminum segments are laminated around carbon fiber.

I don't recomend this unless you have carbide tools.. It took a toll on my skew :)

Thanks guys.. That means a lot coming from you Hendu. You do amazing work.

I'll try again next year. A plan is in the works but this time it will involve fire, hammers and some time learning a new skill my friend picked up in Spain.

It should be a blast.

A fantastic Pen Scott.
Love your concept and Exercution.
Thanks for the Photograph of the Blanks and the Segmentation.
I am puzzled a little as the Blank in WIP, shows an Amber, Tan Colour, yet the finished Pen is predominiately Bluish.
Did the all the Amber/Tan turn off?
Great Job Scott .
Brian.

When I did the stabilizing I used a opaque blue dye that does not penetrate well but does a nice job of filling cracks and voids with a solid color.

After turning they were basically just a bare wood color.

After I got them turned and sanded I applied blue alumalite dye straight to the wood and used some WTF (wood turners finish) clean it off a little and lighten the color.

I just had to be careful not to get it onto the white segments.

You can't do a full WTF finish because the dye keeps bleeding through.

CA thankfully does not blend well with the dye so it's easy to lock the color in under the CA finish.

I've played around with dye in the stabilizer but I wasn't getting the deep colors I wanted so I started putting the dye right on the wood with nice results.

The aluminum segments are laminated around carbon fiber.

Would you be willingly to expand on this process? Think I know what you are speaking about here, but I would hate to assume things....

The pen is outstanding!

I did a quick how to and posted in the segmenting forum.

Those pieces you see in the background of the work in progress pic are the ones that fell apart during drilling..

I had to make a few extras :)
Call me crazy but I prefer to drill my pieces separate and assemble the segments on the tube so they all get glued up at the same time.

Very nice pen. I like what you did with the cap. It would have looked great on the other barrel as well.

Thanks.. I had the same thought after I assembled the pen..
It would have balanced the look much better if with the segments above and below the center band.

Every pen is a chance to lean something new.

This is pen #19 for me and my 5th Jr style.
I gave all the others away.. This is the first one I made just for myself.
