has helped make over 100,000 pens for troops!!

For those who may not be familiar with the WoodCraft project, there are several times each year that all WoodCraft locations will invite turners to stop in and "turn a pen for the troops".

At the Milwaukee location, our own Ssajn (Dave) has spent dozens of hours at these events as well as many more hours ahead of time, prepping the pen blanks!! A few of us stop in to help any volunteers who may arrive, but don't know exactly what to do (some have never seen a lathe before)!

I'm sure the IAP has several members who have performed these "prep chores" for other WoodCraft locations.

So, next time you are in your local WoodCraft (I buy all my big tools from them), say THANKS!!!
(Many of these locations also allow IAP chapters to meet in their facility, at no cost)

Nice way to let our men and women in uniform know we care about them!!

Ed, thanks for posting! Thanks to Woodcraft! Thanks to our Troops!!!!! :usflag:
The Alamo Penturners meet at WC, along with the Alamo Woodturners. WC has been very gracious in supporting our groups - even gives us a 10% discount on meeting nites.
They supported the Pens for Troops - even brought out local TV, along with a dozen or so troops from Lackland AFB who turned pens during, and after, the TV spots. It was a two day thing with several hundred pens made. Most of the troops had never made a pen before, but they had a ball and learned quickly.
The Alamo Penturner Chapter spent a whole meeting prepping blanks/tubes, which helped the turning process.
Thanks to all who contributed their time to make those 100,000 pens. :good:

since all the TX woodcrafts are owned by the same family - they should give you a 10% discount on every purchase, at every store...you just have to remember to ask for it. It should be noted in your profile at the store that you're a club member.

I could only make it for a few hours on the most recent Turn-For-Troops, but it is ALWAYS a great day, with many people of all ages coming in and trying turning for the first time. A great bunch of local guys (many of them regulars here...) help them out by showing them the ropes and letting them do most of the work on their own (sign of great teaching instincts...) and during slow times, popping out pens of their own to donate... There is always an abundance of kits and blanks, and never enough time to turn them all... Woodcraft has been doing this longer than I've been turning, so their commitment to this project deserves to be recognized.

Kudos to Woodcraft. And for those who can't get to a Woodcraft store (closest for me is about an hour's drive one way) keep our own Pens for Troops in mind.

Thats awesome! I try to support both the Appleton and Milwaukee woodcrafts whenever I can. With a brother in the military for nearly 20 years now, I know for a fact that that the guys and gals in uniform appreciate the support! Here is to the next 100K!
