Evelyn and I were coming home along 264 W in Portsmouth VA when out of no were came a deer. I only saw him when he was right in front of our car. I was going about 60 at the time. We are both ok and we can drive the car the airbags did not go off. Our insurance will cover 100% of the cost, we will have to pay of a rental car since I drop that coverage a few years back. It could have been a whole lot worse the good Lord was watching out over us. Our insurance adjuster will be coming to the house in the next few day so we can get the car fixed.
I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I've had that happen and most times, there is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent the accident. One time my wife was driving down one of our country highways and she saw a doe cross the road. She told me that she slowed down because I had warned her that often times the buck will cross after the doe. Just as she got up to the area, a yearling charged out into the passenger front quarter panel. She was concerned about the deer, so she decided to turn around and check on it. It took her about a mile till she found a safe place to turn around and head back. Just as she was getting to the place where she hit the deer, it ran out again and this time it messed up the driver front quarter panel. She's slowly telling me this when I got home from work and all I wanted to do was go check on the car. When she finally got to the deer it wasn't dead and she wanted to put it in the back seat of the car to take it to the vets. Thankfully, it revived and ran away. This is the only time I've every heard of a person hitting the same deer twice on two separate occasions within a five minute period. I'm sure that to this day that deer must have an aversion to blue Toyota sedans. Anyway, I'm glad the you and your wife are okay and that the damages will be covered by insurance; mine weren't
It was rather frightening we pulled off the road looked at each other in disbelief as to what had happened, it took a few minute to things to sink in. We have both have almost hit deer in out driveway but I would have never thought to watch out for a deer on the interstate and during daylight hours.
Wildlife can be anywhere at anytime. We all should be ready at anytime for accidents like this. Thank you for reminding us.
Because the airbags didn't go off, I would have them looked at. At 60mph they should have deployed in my book. Hitting the deer is scarey enough......finding out that the airbags don't work might be a blessing in the long run.
Thank you so much for all the relies. Our airbag light came on when I started the car after the accident. I glad they didn't deploy I think we could have been hurt. We did see the deer after the accident so no pen blanks. We are still nerves about driving that will pass in time.
Rick neither one of us are big fans of deer meat. I'm glad we have uninsured deer coverage. Maybe we should get lawyer an sure the deeds family.
