I've been a wood worker (as a hobbie) for 30+ years. Eleven years ago when I retired I was looking forward to doing a lot more of it. Well it seems my body had other ideas, 7 years ago - Parkinson's, quickly followed by Diabetes, then a heart attack followed 1 1/2 years ago by a stroke. As a last (I hope) straw they removed my eye about a month ago (no depth perception . Oh yes almost forgot, I'm restricted to a chair except for very short periods.
Anyway, because of things, I no longer feel comfortable in the wood shop. About 6 months ago, while I was at the Vet Center one of the staff handed me a wooden pen. She asked if I had ever thought about making pens. I told her honestly it had never crossed my mind.I did some research and ended up joining a group of vets who are into turning as a whole.
So now I'm teaching myself (mostly) how to do that. Between an occasional visit by a club member, and U-Tube I'm happily making shavings on my lathe. I am. Also going to say that I am avidly hook on the process, I Love it.
