I'm not sure and it was part of a group of blanks that were not labeled.
There is one darker spot on the back but other than that there isn't a lot of figure. It is quite hard and finishes nice.

:):) Dale; Hard to tell what the wood is, but the pen is fantastic !!! Canary wood is one of the names used for Liriodendron tulipifera in the Family Magnoliaceae or American Whitewood. Also known as canary whitewood, yellow poplar, hickory poplar, tulip poplar, saddletree, pople, and tulipwood. The sapwood is very wide, whitish in color and streaked. The heartwood varies from pale yellowish-brown to pale olive-brown streaked with olive green, dark grey or pinkish-brown, and when mineral stained, streaks of steel blue. I think your wood is a little dark and has to tight of a grain for any of the above. Almost looks like Western Red Cedar. One of the tight, straight grained woods. Jim S
