Non-pen related problem....a day or two ago I did an update to Norton Security and since then Internet explorer hangs whenever I try to close the sites I have tabbed.

Anybody have any ideas. I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 3. Internet Explorer 8

If you set a restore point before updating, which should be standard practice, go back to the previous restore point.

If not ......

I have used norton for years - no problems. THey have a great tech support. Log on to their website and follow instructions. They will log in to you computer and fix the settings for you.

First thing I would do is get rid of Norton. It's renown for causing issues. Looking for antirvirus -- Free AVG will work fine.

For the home PC, AVG (my choice) or Avast are great free anti-virus, far better than Norton. I don't know why Norton still sells product even to corporate. They slow down your PC by at least 20% and just don't do a better job than their free conterpart.

For what it's worth, i spent 20 years testing those product deciding wich one to install on a 12,000 pc park.

I have the PAID AVG Internet Security (2012 edition) and like it. Had zero issues. And, it's more than just an Anti-Virus. Well worth the $50 ($63 for 2 computers)

My brother is an IT manager at a major hospital and he put Norton 360 on my computer. I have not had any problems in over a year.
