I was bidding on a vacuum pump on eBay to be used with the Cactus Juice chamber. I was high bidder and about 7 hours before the auction was due to end I received an email from eBay that the auction had been canceled by eBay. They gave several possible reasons for the cancellation, none of which seemed plausible. eBay stated that due to privacy reasons they could not provide further information. Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Larry:
Many times E-bay vendors with brick and mortar storefronts have the same item that is listed on E bay for sell in the shelves for sale. It could be that someone walked into the store and purchased the pump.

Many retailers put slow moving items on E Bay.

Only happened to me once. I contacted the seller about it, but never got a response. My guess is that someone offered the seller more than he thought the highest bid would be. It's against the rules but there's no way to prove it.

I don't think that was the situation (I was wrong once before but I can't remember when). I think that in that case the info supplied by eBay would have reflected that.
My personal opinion is that eBay found some shenanigans going on with the bidding (possibly the seller bidding) and stopped the auction.

I had something like that happen a few years ago. I bought some pen kits for an unbelievable low buy it now price only to have the auction cancelled. The sellers excuse was his automatic listing service made a mistake on the price.

I have been an "eBayer" for years....
If there is one thing I have learned over the years....If your a buyer or seller - You are at there mercy - If they don't want an item to sell or even a seller / member you can get the boot in the blink of an eye.
Was the seller fairly well ranked? What was there feedback % were they a power seller?
Those things can make a big difference.

It happens

eBay sometimes cancels sales - when they do they never tell you the exact reason. Many times it is because the seller violates one of their many rules and the violation does not have to be on the canceled auction.

I had it happen to me a couple months ago. I had other items I was bidding on with the same seller that were not cancelled.

I contacted the seller and was told the item had been damaged and was no longer in sellable condition.

Ebay lists reasons they will accept for a seller cancelling an auction, after bids are received.
