Inskeresting oak grain.

I stopped by a house locally who had a tree in their front yard which was cut down. I asked the guy if he minded if I rummaged through the pile (this things was freakin huge!) and I found a little burl on one chunk.

Here's what some of the inside looks like, probably have 6 with this kind of grain somewhere on the blank. Is this normal?

Those are ray flecks, common in white oak if cut properly.

No, this was cut closer to the center of the limb. Even the burl itself had very little burl in it though.

I made an ornament out of a piece and it turned out great. I'd love to get my hands on some more.

I have some that are like that...almost like lace sheoak figure.

Thanks. I got some crotch from the same tree, wondering if it's going to be as interesting. Wish more blanks would have come out with this figure.

Quartersawn white oak has that a lot.Quarter sawn makes for beautiful wood but not the best yield.

Thats the look you get form Quartersawn or Rift sawn Oak.
