I'm retired. I'm bored. Oh hey I'm making pens!

I'm guessing that's common here....

Native of Texas, still here, most everyone calls me Doc. "Hi!"

I've been working metal since the '70s - welding, apprentice-level machining, and silver jewelry as both hobbyist and pro. Woods and I have a troubled relationship; I like leather but we're not real intimate.

Honestly my favorite thing to make is tools. Currently rehabbing a couple of ancient Craftsman/Atlas lathes and a delta 3D printer, and tuning up to finish a 3D printer of my own design. Obviously, I lied about being bored...

I had an Atlas/Clausing 1950'ish for a time. No motor, a 360 degree indexing plate welded to the headstock. No further use than to hold a blank rock steady while the back mounted trim routed cut very precise slots for segmented inlays.

I loved that machine! https://www.google.com/search?sca_e...WeDhLdU9oZzBFUk0YADABGAcgkYrIrA9KCBABGAEgASgB
That Clausing collab was a nice machine. I do have a little Sherline indexing head that's destined for about the same function; a 4th axis for my CNC mill. My lathes are both are the much-maligned 109 series. I expect they'll do what I need done though...

Welcome from, over the pond. I'm not planning on telling SWMBO a when I retire for a good few months after it happens. Terrified of the "to get sorted " NOW list

Way I figure it is between clubs n visits to friends workshops I should , provided I leave at the correct time and look presentable , not be " spotted " for quite a while 🤫
