Hey everyone! I'm finally a dad! Never cried so much in my life while being happy...
I know I'll most likely not be able to make pens for a while. Any suggestions from all you dads out there?

Sell the child to pay for pen stuff! :eek:It's a win/ win situation. :biggrin:THere is a great market for healthy children and you save the expense of having to actually pay for raising the child!:biggrin: Plus your wife can have one once a year further supporting an addictive hobby! They are fun to make sometimes you get more than one at a time! Double Profits!:biggrin:

In all seriousness, It looks like you have a beautiful wife and child waiting for you. Drop in to chat, make a pen if you can, but take care of the most important things in life first. CONGRATULATIONS1

Congratulations. That is the first of many times you'll cry.....and you just aged about 40 years because about 2052 you'll think back and this will seem like "Only Yesterday". Trust me on this - my twins will be 41 tomorrow.

There is an old song recorded by the Kingston Trio many years ago that had lines that went something like this.

Turn around and she's 2
Turn around and she's 4
Turn around and she's a young girl
Going out of the door.

Another verse says.
Turn around and she's tiny
turn around and she's grown
turn around and she's a young wife
with babes of her own.

The verses are for girl babies but the sentiment fits either gender.

Congratulations!

With one getting some time isn't too bad, with 2 it's a different story. My sons are 4 months and 27 months, the eldest and I spend a lot of time together when I'm home giving mom a small break from the insanity. I think I've made 2 pens in the last 4 months.

Enjoy them while they're little, you'll be telling them to sit down and shut up in no time :rolleyes:.

I can sympathize with this....our 4 daughters are 22 months from the oldest to the youngest....
 
Congratulations! Time to find and use some good rust preventer on the steel in your workshop! If it's detached from the house you may have a couple of months left before you have to take a long break.
 
Glad that mom and baby are well, congrats! As far as advice...... Spend as much time as possible with your child throughout their life and tell them that you love them everyday. It will pay off in the long run. My son is 22 and he tells me that he loves me every time that we speak in person or on the phone. The older that you get, the better YOU will appreciate your child not being afraid to say it to you. My dad NEVER told me that he loved me until he was on his death bed. I used my relationship with my father as an example of what not to do with my children. All parents make mistakes, just learn from them as you go. Again, congrats!

Good advice! Congrats on the baby! May you and your wife have many years of enjoyment with your new child.

Enjoy them because they grow up fast,...They will make so happy and make you worry, they will test you and they will try to out smart you....but in the end you will find out it was all worth it...Just don't explain to them how they were made with this statement:
Daddy , how was I born? A little girl goes to her father and asks 'Daddy, how was I born?' The father answers, 'Well, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway! Your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your Mom and we met at a cyber-cafe.. We sneaked into a secluded room, and googled each other. There your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a little Pop-Up appeared that said:

Congratulations on your new baby. They are great and worth every minute of your effort. I agree tell your child that you love it every time you are together, whenever you leave and when you come home and hug and kiss them. It will feel good to you and to them. Nothing like holding and hugging a baby.
 
I have had 5, four still living. oldest now is 55.
Once was given advice by an elderly Italian man-- " Wise people raise pigs, not children. That way when they grow up and cause problems, you just kill and eat them,
Enjoy them when they are small.

Suggestion 1: Take care of your wife. Her hormones and emotions will do things in the next 3-6 months that you never thought possible. Add to this that family and friends might pay more attention to the baby and she may feel like a second rate citizen whose only function is to provide a grandchild to the in-laws. Know when to kick everyone out of the house and have some time alone with your wife and baby.

Suggestion 2: Buy stock in Huggies/Pampers. Potty training will be better than a pay raise!

My sage advise.... enjoy it. Next time you know it, they'll be asking for the car keys...
