Here's an interesting anonymous blank. Came with a box of random blanks. Most of them were labeled w/ the species, this one was not. Great curvy grain. Don't know what it will look like on the inside!

Any thoughts on the species?

Almost looks like a piece sold at a wood store here of 50,000 year old wood that was buried in a peat bog. I think it was called Kari ( don't know about the spelling).

That looks like the highly figured bubinga that was in Lou Metcalf's (DCBluesman) stash of blanks that was recently sold off by Roy (OKLAHOMAN). I have a couple (that are labeled); I have not turned them, but I know they'll be beautiful!

Take your pick of the suggestions -- short of labratory analysis (and there are people who do that) you will have a guess --

Be sure to make the point - it came from a good source.

Yep, this came from Lou's stash. Got a bunch of blanks, all labeled except this one. I'll go with bubinga, then. Thanks a lot for everyone registering a guess. I had no idea.

I thought the idea on stabilizing with a color sounded pretty good. I may do that with part of the blank. I think maybe green!
