Im working on a pen for a friend that he wants it to look like a Gurkha Assassin cigar. He gave me the band but that thing is so fat it doesnt fit in my largest 19-20 collet.

I thought I saw a thread about how to make your own collets but cant find the dang thing.

Any suggestions are appreciated.....

See if this is it: http://www.penturners.org/forum/f30/new-way-trim-ends-104462/

I think the videos of the penmakers from Japan showed us something similar.

Do a good turn daily!

Thanks Don. That's the one I was looking for.

Grant I usually finish the outside then part the almost finished "Faux" cigar and assemble the guts......

I havent done alot of theses but that s the way I have made the three I got. but If theres a better way?????

El_d: I was thinking that you could hold the blank between centers just to turn one end down small enough to put into your largest collet. Turn the rest of the blank, sand, finish, etc, then part it off from the "tenon" in the collet.

I'm assuming that you don't have a scroll chuck to hold it in.

As Don linked to, you can make your own collets, then hold them in the scroll chuck, too.
