My family has been doing ice carving for around 12 years now. I've carved ice for around 3 years, and in '09 my sister and I carved together at the State Championships in Soldotna and took 3rd.

Anyway, here we are in Fairbanks, Alaska for the World Ice Art Championships. My sister and I (Aurora and Silas Firth)will be carving as a team and my Dad and Mom (Ben and Melanie) will be carving as a team. The competition starts tomorrow morning and goes through Thursday evening. Here's the link if you want to check out our progress. They'll be updating the site all throughout the day, and some of the sculptures will have web cam so you can see the carvings take shape.

This is the largest annual ice carving competition in the world, and is a rather unique art, so go to the website and check it out!

P.S. We're in the Single Block competition.

Very cool! I was amazed by the snow/ice sculptures in Nome last year. We are headed back in 16 days, can't wait!
