This post is not about a new little gloat or my new home shop, but about what a great place IAP is and how over the years I have met and made a bunch of great friends. :)

Some folks know I have been looking for a used Oneway lathe. The closest I came is when Charles took off in a snow storm to bid on a bunch of Oneway lathes and other tools. Well most of us know how that went. I pretty much had given up and quit looking. I had just got back from doing that week long show at Barrett-Jackson and started to catch up on my e-mail when Gary Max sent me a note about a Oneway lathe right in my backyard. Less than 5 miles from my house. He had spotted it on Ebay. So I happened to have a few extra sheckles in my pocket from the show [:p] and as luck would have it, nobody bid on it and I got for the opening bid of 1,350.00 which I thought was a steal. :) After moving my store and studio to a new commercial location, I missd not having a good lathe at home for those times when you just feel like turning all nite. So this baby came home to rest.

So without IAP, I would have never met and made friends with Gary, and never found this lathe. Come to think of it, he is my only hillbilly friend I have. :D So I think a new skew just may be inline for Gary as a small token for a finders fee :)

So as this birthday bash comes to another close, I would like to thank Jeff and Scott for starting this forum and thanks to all the freinds I made and never met, and to the friends I made and have met at the shows now and then and to the future of making and meeting new ones on a great forum.

So here is the gloat [:p] Just a note, believe everything you read about Oneway lathes. I knew they were a good machine, but I was really impressed as I took it for a quick little spin tonight. Just can't beat those late nite turns :D

Looking good my Friend---------glad I was able to help you spend a few of the extra coins you had. I am buying the new Skew from Charles---Tangboy5000--- -he only had one left in stock.
Enjoy and be safe.

Anthony, sorry, I gotta dot, it... this is most definitely one of those you suck moments! Drool! I'm very happy for you. I too was one of the unfortunate souls involved in Charles' snow auction. But my turn will come. Great looking little lathe, buddy!

A very timely post, Anthony. I agree 100% with your feelings about IAP.

The Birthday Bash is a great success. Its become much more than just winning a drawing. The Daily Trivia Contest, Ugly Pen, and SlimLine contests have been great. The whole Birthday Bash has helped us to appreciate each other and what we have here. We've even had a good time poking fun at ourselves in the "I Am Such a Loser" thread.

Thanks to Jeff, Scott, Gerry and Weasel Bill for all of their hard work!

Gary, under all that plastic, there are a few wood chips [:D] I turned a few spacers for my pen mill, then got busy turning blanks for my Amber Ripple pen. I need a bunch to take to the LA pen show.

Billy, I think you had your turn last month with the new Mustard [:)] Did Charles ever buy anything at that auction?

No, Anthony, he didn't... at least he didn't tell me that he bought anything. They were supposed to be checking on a few items that seemed to be missing and get back to him the next day, but...

And yes, I got the monster, but you have your big lathe too, IIRC. [:D] I'd still like to have a 1018, or the next larger for my smaller stuff. That way I can have two things working at once so I don't have to to breaks between steps, etc. And the extra smaller lathe would allow me to have someone else turning if they so desired.[;)] But like I said, I'll find something when the time is right.[8D]

Wow, congrats Anthony, isn't ebay great[:D] Your lucky it was so close so you didn't have to pay shipping on that puppy.

BTW, may I ask, what is a one-way lathe?

Congrats Anthony!!!

You are right about this community...good people abound and it is very easy to find good friends! You don't even have to look actually [;)].

It is a Canadian firm that manufactures what some may question to be the Cadilac of lathes. But they do make some good stuff. The model I got was the 1224, here is the link to their web site.

I think the price was right, because he would not ship, pick up only.

Dario, don't say that. Year after year, auto manufacturer reports are that the German car companies have more cars returned for warranty service than many of the cheap American cars.

Dario, it is your fault I have that Jet mini. You posted that great deal Amazon had. So I bought that to take out when I do demos.

Gerry, moving it wasn't to bad, I supervised my two sons, just cost me breakfast. We had to take the lathe off the stand though. The damn stand is heavier than the lathe. [:0]

If it will make you feel much better...I'll take it off your hands for the purchase price less depreciation [:D][}:)] DEAL? [}:)] LOL
That is a great lathe. No, that is a manly lathe and I want one. I'm going to steal yours.

Dan.

Are you trying to say that Anthony isn't manly enough for that lathe Dan? [:D]

I'm jealous Anthony!!! I wish I had the ROOM, let alone the budget, for such a toy! Best of luck with it!

Roger, there is no question that this lathe would look really good in my shop. no maybe about it.
Anthony, congrats, one of these is on my wish list. If I can ever stop spending all my money building the shop. I'll be getting one myself.
When is your shop going to be done Daniel? You have been working on it since I have known you![:)]

I think it quit being a shop and starting becoming the money pit [:D]
I spent 13K on clearing a fire break around my house and digging a 40x40 foot pad for my new shop on my property. Oh that was 3 years ago and that is as far as I got. [V]

Yeh Fred, I was doing that show that week. Glad I didn't see it. I am surprised nobody jumped on it. I thought it was a good deal. Thanks for the link to, I missed another slam at my expense from Jim [:D]

Got to go......I am bleeding from Russ's wound [:D] [:D]

Plug the wound with a couple closed end Penchettas!!!

Get off the net and on the lathe, then post pics!!!

BEAUTIFUL piece of hardware. If I put one in my basement shop, I would have to sell it with the house - no way it would come UP the stairs!![:o)][:o)]
