I wish I knew what this wood was...

..because it has some wild figure in it. A friend gave me a bunch of hardwood boards a couple weeks ago because he is planning to move to Arizona in a couple years. This end of one board that we couldn't identify was marked off with a pencil line because I don't think they calculated the end which was knotted and spalted into the board feet when they priced the board. I made this pen as a thank you for the wood.

It might be ash, or sycamore.
