Wow, they would... I bet the quality is not as high. Notice how they have come out with blanks similar to ones that people on here make, yet people on here still buy them from people on here!
 
With the owner on our site, what should we expect? At least if they want to keep copying our members work, they could at least try and copy the great service and support to go with it.
 
You inspired me to try mine! You've made an impact on those of us on the forum and it's kind of screwed up that big business took an idea and mass produced it for sole profits. They could have at least offered you a percentage!
 
I guess those of us that are on this forum will continue to buy from each other and not big business. The slackers that are not on here can pay the $10 and get them from PSI. Just my 1.5 cents.
 
What a shame. I guess there is consolidation in the fact that someone likes your work enough to copy it. On the other hand, you came up with the idea and now they are profiting from it. Maybe we should start encoding our pictures and limiting who can see them.

I'd like to start by saying that I am not the first to come up with the idea for these blanks. I starting making them before I saw others posted here and other websites. I have sold them on this website.

I am the one that is making and selling these blanks to PSI. I stop selling them on this site because I was selling them to PSI. It was not a requirement that I stop selling here. That was my decision.

Don, I guess that will teach you to do something Original. I think some of these other companies should pay Jeff for running the site, just for the privilege
of pirating so many of the unique blank designs they have borrowed from a few of the folks on the site.
It really isn't that hard to apply for a Patent Pending, IF you do the research your self, but then it does close doors on some small guys that just want to make one or two for them selves. The research and drawings are the hardest part.
It's been a while since I applied for the Patents on our tools, but it's not expensive, just time consuming. Sorry to see some one else get knocked off.
 
Just to help set the record straight, the big companies do not make these blanks or any of their blanks, they buy them from someone else that is making them.

Dittos on this. When I started turning a year ago, I didn't know about IAP, and bought a few acrylic blanks from the big stores (I had lots of exotic wood blanks I use for cutting boards, so I used those for my first pens).

Since discovering all the sellers here, I've kept the UPS and Fedex guys coming by pretty often. :smile:
 
I'd be pretty psyched if I had something I could claim as an original idea get picked up and produced in mass quantity. I get pretty psyched when I see one of my ideas re-attempted and re-imagined on here on the rare occasion that it happens. I'd also be chafed pretty hard by watching someone else make that much money off it.
 
About 20 years ago I designed and built a slide for a fridge in the back of 4WDs for camping etc. When I sold my business 10 years later, there were 14 different businesses making them, plus a few from China (they didn't last long, falling apart, bearing failure etc.
As someone else said it nice to be copied.:biggrin:
