A friend of mine (non-turner,pro pool player) got a big chunk of this from a contact in South America , and said it was Cocobolo . What ever it is , I like it , and the price was right . He just wanted a pen . NO , NOT this one , he wanted a Cigar . :confused: Put it on a Rhodium / Black Ti Statesman RB .Comments or opinions accepted . Thanks for looking !

Hey, thats a really classy looking pen. Looks like cocobolo from here, too. The finish and everything turned out really well and I love the black titanium with those colors!

Chuck...

It's almost certainly coco. I have a ton of premium coco if you really start jonesing for more. I have loaded up with the best that West Penn had as well as a couple of other spots I raided! LOL!

The pen looks terrific as usual!!
:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Thank you Bree ! I'm OK on the Coco , but don't worry , I'm not above Jonesing for some of that other stuff you got . :biggrin: Glad you like the pen .

Beautiful Pen Chuck! Looks like cocobolo to me too. Very expensive in my neck of the woods. The last (small board) I bought was priced at $28 a board foot! Good thing it only takes a small piece to make a pen.

Thanks John . Yeah , I'm glad I didn't have to pay much for this .

Chances are that it is Coco. But, there are many-many South American exotics that are in the rosewood family and look similar. And, to complicate matters some are illegal to ship out of the countries but often make it to the U.S. falsely labeled. And....to further complexcate matters, many exotic trees in SA have as many as 30 "official" scientific names. Sometimes even experts can be confused.
Regardless, you ended up with a beautiful pen. Congrats and enjoy.

Frank , thank you for the interesting information . The guy handed me two obviously different pieces of wood , but said they were both Cocobolo . Thank you too , for the compliment .

Cannot be 100% sure but it looks like cocobolo from here...and a very nice one at that.

Cocobolo has a distinct smell once you've got that down, you will know if you are turning one.

Good score!

Thanks Dario ! I did pick up on the distinctive odor .

Don't smell it too much...cocobolo is a sensitizer and most people eventually becomes allergic to it. Enjoy it while you can and stay safe!
