I wanted to get started by asking the membership a question.

What would you like to see in YOUR Library?

What tutorials would you like to see? (I can't guarantee that all requests will be filled but your request might spur a would be author into action)

What about a "tips and tricks" section?

I know that one thing I would like to see is instructions on pen dis-assembly.

If you are the shy type then PM me your suggestions.

My goals are to make the IAP the place to come to for all things penturning.

Please help me to help you.

How about a recent (updated yearly) collection of links to specific subjects -Such my favorites of

CA Finishes

Mandrel-less / Turning between centers

Best of Forum / Hall of Fame picts

For CA finishes, here are some links for reading:
Best Two Overall IMO:
Rudy Vey
http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39893
Russ Fairfield:

Other Recent CA links and reading:

Pict of Bushings removed for finishing:

ON the Hall of Fame / Best of Forum Picts, it would be nice to have a collection to refer to - for the following reasons:
• 1. FAST SEARCHES - A picture is worth a 1000 words . . and where better to begin searches to find the right pen to demonstrate an explanation than here?
• 2. SPURRING CREATIVENESS - Newbies and oldies alike would have quick access to pens that would spur them on, or trigger the next step up in creativeness.
• 3. HISTORY - of our pen progression. A history helps us appreciate where we are and how far we have come. The "first or best" of certain pens mark our progression when accumulated in one forum/spot.
• 4. FUTURE: When Forum Software is upgraded or changed to new in 3 to 4 years, at least an IAP specific "forum" will have picts that can be transferred intact. No more lost photos of IAP History.

Since the upgrade of forum software, my links to most of the picts from 2004 - early 2008 years - are gone. It is ashamed that picts of early history of IAP are wiped out. A Library for great pens would be a help.

Being that we have alot of people who sell things here, a vendors list would be nice with a quick discription or a link so that they would not have to be hunted down......

Video on proper tool technique - roughing gouge, skew, spindle gouge etc.

Video on sharpening your tools.

The all illusive chart that show what kits are the same as others. By "same" I mean use the same tube AND bushings. i.e. Wall St II = Sierra

Listing of different kits with tips and tricks for each one.

List of what IAP member sell different things but grouped by item for sale. In other words: Bushings - John and Paul.

The Library better organzied by subject.

Thanks for asking.

I agree with all of the above. Being new to this I really agree with JimB for starters. Any links to watch multiple videos on techniques is really helpful. Thanks

I also like to see more videos of instructions or short cuts.Sonmeone said a picture is worth a thousand words. Just my two cents. You have done a great job in the library and I use it more times them I like to admit. Keep up the great work.

i know this might not belong in this thread, but out of all IAP members how many turn pens as a business and how many as a hobby. not everyone will have the time to look up every topic, people who turn pens to commission will hardly have the time to if they are working to a specific deadline and hope to turn so many pens a day

How about a chart or spreadsheet of all of the different bushing sizes for all of the different pen kits. That would be a great resource for those of us who want to make our own bushings.

Randy and I have been working on charts. I need to talk to him and see if he wants to combine forces with that. But for now I will email anyone a copy of what I have but it is in no way complete.

We're getting a lot of really good idea's. Now we could use a few members who would like to take on one of these challenges to step up.
