That is amazing.

I've seen 3d printers before, but didn't realize that they could print moving parts or that the resulting items would have the strength to allow them to be used as tools.
 
Since they've been invented, 3D machines have always been pretty expensive, like starting in the $20 to $30K range. I had a wax printer for lost wax cast items, and it was over $40K. Here's one that will use ABS plastic that will be just over $1000. Cubify - Express yourself in 3D There are a few of the types of places that Zach referred to out there now where you can send them your file and they will send you a plastic or metal part.

I have one. Its a makerbot cupcake cnc, 1st gen. Cost about $1000. Now they have 2 avalable, the thing o matic, basicly the cupcake with some upgrades, and the replecator, a larger printer that can also prnt in 2 colors. Not quite this advanced, but for less than $2000, is a real neat thing.
 
I'd take a cnc mill over a 3d printer anyday.

A 3d printer has many niche uses but for general work they get beaten in almost every way.

Finish, accuracy, speed, strength...
