I was at the grocery store last night and while my son's Boy Scout troop shopped for an upcoming camping trip, the adults waited near a couple of booths to discuss the trip.

First thing I noticed when I sat down was the figure on this one bench slat. Then I noticed that one screw was missing and the other screw was loose. Then I thought of all the nice pens I could have made from this piece of wood.

It was a difficult decision but I had to pass up the slat

Yes, I have an addiction.

I drive my wife crazy pointing out all of the nice wood wasted on gym floors and public seating. I guess it isn't wasted if it brings me joy to see it...

It is not wasted. You just appreciate the finer things in life. We as woodworkers look at things made from mother nature's gift a whole lot different. I do the same myself. Love the beauty in well made woodworking projects of all kinds.

Pre surgery

I am sitting in the VA hospital waiting to be called into the doctors office for getting surgery .
There was only me and one other Vet in the waiting room .
I am looking at the arm rest and thinking ( is that tiger maple )

I start looking at the rest of the chairs arm rests , I am thinking wow some of these arm rests have some nice wood in them .

Then I start thinking if they throw any of them away ..
Then I got called in the doctors office .
