Well, not really quit, but I wanted to share with my IAP family that after 34 years, 8 months and 15 days of fighting crime and stamping out evil I have retired from the Columbus Division of Police. I anticipate having very little difficulty adjusting waking up each morning and NOT going work. Now I might have time to try all the pen making design ideas I have had rattling around in my pea-brain.

Congrats Mike. When my FIL retired from IPD oh so many years ago  he thought the same thing too. I think he works harder now than when he was on the force. Then again he is enjoying what he is doing now.

There is a huge difference in the way the police were viewed and treated when he joined the force in the 60's compared to today. I would not wish the job on anyone today.

Many congrats Mike! 4 years ago this week marks my retirement from crime and corruption after 28 years. Then, i got bored......

Congradulations Mike, I tried that after 28 yrs of Navy life, but it didn't take long and they called me back, it's been a total of 43 years now and I still am working but really enjoy what I do. Best to you. Robbie

Best Wishes for a great retirement. A bit of advice. Don't look back - don't second guess -- just enjoy what the future brings.

Good luck! People say you won't know what to do with your time. WRONG! I'm busier now than when I was working. I bet you will find the same the same is true for you.

Welcome to retirement, I would love to fill you in on what we do but I don't have any free time for a while...retirement is tiring.

I think I retired, just not to sure as it seems I'm always doing something, but I sure enjoy what I'm doing now.

Congratulations, and welcome to the other side. Soon you will wonder how you had time to go to work.

Congrats. You'll love it.
I retired one year ago. I'll be the fifth one to state what has already been stated. How did I find time to do things while working 40hrs a week?????

Mike congratulations on your retirement and thanks for your years of dedicated law enforcement. I have retired twice and gone back to work to get some rest.

That's right, and DON"T you forget it! Signed Father In Law!!! Congratulations Mike! Considering the way things have changed, Don't Look Back!

Now for some well deserved time off, sounds like you earned it!

Don't let anyone fool you, you will have plenty to keep you busy BUT the most important thing that you will soon realize is that whatever you have planned for the day can easily be trumped by simply dropping what you're doing, saying "to heck with it" and go fishing instead!

THAT is the beauty of retirement, well, that and having a check sent to your bank account every month for staying the hell out of the way at work!

Congratulations! Enjoy the retirement and use the creative juices to make those pens that have been rolling around intside your brain!

Looking forwards to seeing the results of those things rolling around in there!

Mike

Congratulations on you retirement. You served you community for many years and now enjoy a long and healthy retirement.

I retired as a civilian employee of the CHP 9 years ago after 38 year 5 month of service. My Brother in law retired as SGT from the CHP after 35 years of service and many injuries, he is pretty crippled up but still leads an active life. His wife and my wife (sisters) both worked for the Patrol, his wife 30+ years my wife 15 years until I transfered and she had to change jobs and went on a different career path. His son in law is currently at the CHP Academy in his 5TH week and will graduate in October. We all lost friends at the Patrol in the line of duty and we worry about Brian as the world of law enforcement has gotten very deadly these past few years. I hadn't planned on retiring when I did (age61) but I went to work on day and climbed into the bed of a Pickup were were equipping for patrol work (I was the equipping line supervisor) and my good friend was helping me and I told him Steve I can't do this anymore it is to physically demanding even though we are supervisors. The next morning I went the the retirement system and signed my papers and 2 month later I was gone. He retired 6 month later on disability and died about a year later from complications of diabetes. I loved my job and it's challenges and people I worked with and for but it became to much and I knew it was time to go, no thinking about it just did it, Luckily I had done some planning but but hadn't really thought that much about it.
