I've been making travel mugs for a while. I used to get the stainless inserts from Woodcraft but by the time you add in shipping and sales tax, the price for just the insert gets to $13+. That puts the end cost way more than I want to charge. A while back I got some samples of mugs at Discount Mugs. They came as a completed mug. I removed the plastic cover and, voila, the exact same thing that Woodcraft sells, but for a LOT less (about $3 per mug). That's okay from a dollars and cents perspective but it's wasteful of the plastic that I have to throw away. I'm wondering if anybody has a source for just the stainless liner (16 oz).

Stainless steel appliances are usually covered with plastic film as a protective cover. Just think how much plastic is used for cars and boats. Maybe recyclable? Good information. Does the three dollars make that much difference in the final price? Just curious.
 
I just went to Discount mugs site and they don't appear to have any mugs for $10, so I am guessing the OP meant that the price there is $3, rather than $3 less than Woodcraft!
 
Steve - this one - https://www.discountmugs.com/product/st33-16-oz.-custom-insulated-tumblers/ - is what I was posting about. I just saw the "as low as" price. My bad. But if you get a blank mug in a fairly small lot, the price is still WAY lower than Woodcraft. BTW, I checked at Rockler, too. They're not quite as high as Woodcraft but they'll still charge shipping and 6% tax here in Michigan. Discount mugs has free shipping aver $75 and no sales tax.
Woodchipper - it wasn't a $3 difference, more like $10. See above, final DM price to my door will be somewhere in the $5-$6 range. And, yes, it does make a difference.
