Merry Christmas to me.

I just bought a new Jet 1221 VS from Craft Supplies USA for $680.

This is a Black Friday Sale price. I had been emailing back and forth with Roger Durst, and he was finally able to give the sale price. I also mentioned IAP, and how I wanted to patronize IAP friends. Since I work out of the country, they are also going to delay shipping until I get home.

It is such a pleasure to do business with such nice people.

Thank you CSUSA

Congratulations on your new Jet1221VS!!! I've had mine for almost a year now and couldn't be happier! The only 'problem' I've had with it was with the paint... Jet used just regular enamel paint instead of powder coating it, sooo keep it wax'd up and clean and it'll look like new forever! Again, congratulations to you and safe turning always!

took delivery of Jet 1221VS

Hello all. After reading a few horrror stories of Jet lathes being damaged during shipment, I was nervous about buying online, but the price made the decision much easier. Because of Christmas holiday schedules, I decided to pick it up at the distribution center instead of waiting another day or 2 at home, and was preparing myself to be mean and nasty if the lathe was damaged.

When the forklift driver put the pallet in my van, I was happy to see that the lathe was fantastically prepped, packaged, and secured to it's own pallet. Everything was PERFECT.

I do not know if Jet, Craft Supplies USA, or Southeastern Freight Lines are responsible for the great shipping, but I could not be happier.

Attached is a pic of the lathe and pallet all strapped down, shrink wrapped, and protected.

Isn't it fun to get a new toy,, errr tool? I have a wolverine sharpening system coming in the next week and I can sure remember when I got my lathe and unpacked it and set it up myself. It was a heavy sucker and I wet my pants getting it up on the bench and we have no men to help us any more. I still enjoy it as if it were a brand new one. Every time I use it, I think of how much fun it was to get it set up and the same wit my DeWalt 788 scrollsaw. Is this your very first lathe or do you have or use another lathe? Enjoy and may you have many years of use on it... Fay

OK Capt, let's see some beautiful turnings from your new baby!!! The more I use my 1221VS, the more I like it and hope you'll feel the same. I understand Texas is known for it's mesquite...It's one of my favorite woods to turn. If you can get your hands on some, let us see some of your talent! Enjoy your new lathe and safe turning to you always! BTW...Happy New Year and safe turning to you and yours!

Congratulations! You did it the best way. Reading our "horror" stories helped you out. Good for you!

My experience with the 1221vs

I got mine from Amazon last Feb, the door over the pulley was broken but they sent a replacement. the other things was the loose variable speed know issue that some folks have seen. Just posted this in another thread so don't be too alarmed if you see and you maybe never will. But still a GREAT lathe.

Ok, so last night I took the control box apart and trying to figure out how to get the knob off I noticed behind the knob that there IS a nut, it is not a press fit. I took my depth guage (1/32" thick 6" ruler) and slid behind the knob to tighten that nut and it is back to being solid again. So it's fixed. What clued me in that it was not the potentiometer itself was that if I held it from the back the potentiometer was still solid so that meant it was just the fit in the panel. So if you guys try this, see if that resolves it. You might not even have to take the box apart at all to do this.

@cdevillez

Thanks for sharing your discovery. I had read on a forum that some folks were having problems with the belt tension and it causing vibration. I got mine a little before you and mine has detents for the belt tension. The last click on mine gets the tension right which for me is a 1/4" slack. YMMV
