I have high hopes for this WW cast,,,,

Hi All,
Hopefully it'll turn out as it looks in my mind. My idea was to produce something with a fairly large amount of mica pearl in it for a highly shimmery appearance. It is PR with three drops of red dye, a little fingernail size scoop of Ultra Silk Mica Powder and a half a little fingernail size scoop of Xian Vistas Pearl Mica (aka Zion Views). The powders are from Coastal Scents The red dye is just some Castin-Craft stuff I had around.
From what I can see so far, it has come out with a marble type of appearance. The photos here don't show the affect as well as they could. This is appearance is actually fine with me, I think this could be cool. My LOML has already pretty much claimed it. I'm thinking about waiting till I get my Jr. Gent closed end mandrel and a couple of kits and using that. Of course this may not work for her. She has little lady fingers. It may end up a Euro, or maybe an Americana. We'll see. I do hate to waist it on a Euro though. I think this is one I could reproduce, seeing how I just recorded the recipe here. The swirl will be the challenge. To get it to swirl, I let it go a touch thick before I poured it. Then I put it under 60 pounds and let it cook over night. I used high pressure, well because I can, and I didn't want to take any chances. And this will also be a double cast job.

When you say little fingernail scoops do you mean a fingernail sized scoop on a stick or are you refering to a particular type/size of scoop. I use the 1 ml scoops that come in a 5 pack from Michael's.

There like medical tonger depressors. I dipped them into the powder. The pile looked about the size of my little finger nail. I would like some of the plastic ones. The wood ones last for a while, the powder stains them. I worry a little about contamination. They only work for one liquid mix too. But they are cheap. I get ??? I think 50 or 100 for like $1.50 or $2.

I use the wood craft sticks and then use the same stick to stir up the PR. It's single use, but that makes cleanup easy and contamination impossible.

I use craft sticks for stirring, yes because they are cheap and one time use. I was using the popsicle sticks for approximating the "liquid" pigments which are actually more of a paste, but I am now using .5cc syringes with the needle removed, when they get too gunked up I toss them and pull out a new one and remove the needle head. This allows for accurate measurement of the paste pigment. I am using the ml scoops for the powders, again cause it allows for accurate measurement, and they are washable, and reusable.

There is no "right" way or "wrong" way.

Again, they are nice blanks.

That's gonna be another pretty one. I like the colors. You did a great job on Earth Euro. Turned out really nice. I enjoy this casting/stab. forum. Some pretty neat stuff to see. Gives me the hankering to do some, but that's impossible--I'll never have the time to get into something that involved. Keep it up. You're doing a great job.

I got the scoops at Michael's, $2.99, used a coupon of course. They are 1 milliliter scoops. Of course they are called "Dippers" on the packaging.

Got a question for some of you casters.

How do you stir your resin when you are doing several pours, you know want to save time. I watched the ribbon casting tutorial in the library and he used a modified stick in his drill driver. I tried it and it wouldn't take the powder from the top and blend it. It just sort of knocked it out onto my hand. Couldn't get the stick at the right angle.
Is there a quicker way to mix? Bubbles aren't "too" much of a concern because I use the pot on almost everything, even solid color casting.
Just curious, may be too late to get any more responses on this topic.

I switched to regular popsicle sticks in the drill. When the beater is spinning that fast does double the width really matter?
I use 9oz SOLO brand cups that are PETE. They are short and have a good wide top and narrowish base. I usually am mixing at least 4 cups at a time. I stir into the cup at an angle while kinda flipping the spinning stick up, and scraping the sides. Kinda like mixing pancake batter only smaller. I have at times taken the powders, scooped them into the empty cups before adding resin, then started blending with the drill.

Where were you able to find large packages of those cups?? only place I can find them is a t wal-mart in the party stuff and they are 10 for $1.68

The local Publix, on the aisle with the disposable aluminum baking pans, ziplock bags and reusable Glad-ware is where I have found them, right at $3.00 a package if memory serves. I have been meaning to look in Sams, but I never drive that far across town.
