With all the members getting metal lathes I thought may be I should think about getting a wood lathe. I currently do all my turning on a Sherline 4400 metal lathe. Besides the grandkids are starting to take an interest in turning and they might enjoy a wood lathe also.

Ive been keeping an eye on Craig's list for a while in case something interesting popped up and yesterday it did an oldie but a goodie
A Duro wood lathe.

It 5 inches to the bed from the center, and about 28-29inches of work length. It only came with the tool post and a cup center. The live center in the picture is a spare I have been hauling around for years. The headstock shaft runs on a sealed bearing on the front and a bronze oiled bushing in the back. Its got a slight tick to the back end when I wiggle that end of the shaft. I may replace it. But it will be OK for now. The shaft is threaded for 3/4- 16 outside with a 1mt taper inside. Thats great for me. all my lathe and mill chucks, both the Taig and sherline use 3/4- 16 or 1mt on their headstocks as well. All my accessories will interchange between lathes. I have already completely disassembled, cleaned and reassembled it. I had to replace the 6-32 screws on the front thrust plate. One was original one was not and one was missing. I will need to attach a motor to it but I have several options sitting on the shelf, from a spare Sherline vs, to a 1 1/2hp dc motor, up to a 3hp motor I used to have on my Rigid band saw before I sold it. I may take it completely apart and throw it in the sandblasting cabinet and then repaint it and I may just leave it alone.

Heres a picture of it with one of my spare Taig 3 jaw chucks on it and the Duro label.
