about an hour from me.

The ad claims it has never been used.
It comes with tools, but doesn't specify
what tools.

I might have my brother convinced to adding this or something
similar to his shop.
Considering it has the bed extension and a stand, I believe
the asking price of $350.00 is fair provided it actually works.
Sometimes a reduced price and non-use indicates non-working.
I read reviews on the Rikon, and it seems to be a decent brand
and even if it has an issue, I think it would be repairable.

It could just be the upcoming holidays that is forcing the sale.

John, Do you know the turning diameter? 10" or 12"?
It appears to be belt drive only...not variable.
Still can be a very good mini/midi lathe with an extended bed....baseball bats, longer Tool handles, pepper mills, etc.

If you show up with cash, you may be able to talk he seller down some since it is not variable speed. Tell the seller variable speed lathes are easy sells.....belt drive....not as well.

Good luck!

It's a 12". Looking it up, the price is $373.00 just for the lathe.
I'm not concerned about variable speed. I can take a minute to move the belt. My last lathe was the same way and it wasn't bad to change it. In fact, I never changed it. It was set at the fastest speed and I did everything with it there.

I own one exactly like it minus the extension. I am about to list it on Craigslist later this week. It has 6 forward speeds. I have used it for 1 1/2 years with no problems at all. Not a bad little lathe.

My first lathe I did the same thing. Never moved it. Now I turn the dial back and forth all the time.

The rikon is a solid lathe though. Doesn't seem to have any major reported issues.

One of our little Jet lathes at the Center for the Blind is variable speed, the other isn't. My 10" at home is not, but the 12" is. I can change the speed on the belt drives by touch in less than a minute. I lower the speed for drilling and rounding big peppermill blanks, the rest is done at the second to highest speed. I find that turning the big blanks round can stall the variable speed Jet, while the belt drive one just keeps on going.

At home I still do most of my turning on the little 10" lathe. It has a bed extender, so I can even turn canes on it. I bought the bigger one for bowls (it has a swivel head to turn larger bowls) but most of what I do is spindle type work. Someday I will get back to bowl turning, though. I have the variable speed permanently set up for drilling right at the moment.

Why do you want to sell it, if you don't mind sharing?

I have several different lathes and that is one of the ones I have. I think with the extension and factory stands it has, it would be in the neighborhood of 750.00. I use mine for a fulltime Beall buff but it has been used to turn pens and a pepper grinder or two and it was a fine lathe. That is a decent price....and of it comes with some accessories it will be that much better. I would ask to see it run and see if it is co-planar though. As pen turners the extension is not a big deal to us, but I have to tell you it is a great place to add-on some storage type things in the future. I have a Delta with an extension and it has been very handy. You can replace the feet with wheels and lower it a little and it will be all the more handier too!
As for VS, that is handy but you can live with out it and "turn" out great stuff, it just takes a little longer....and which of us that has been doing this a while has the same lathe we started with anyway? Well...I guess I do but, I don't sell much....I just keep adding!!!!
Just my .02
