I bought this from 800WATT on eBay...3-20mm METRIC 18 PC ER32 SPRING COLLETS SET TIR 0.008mm...have not received it yet. Now, the question is...how do I use these things on my Delta 46-460 (1" by 8TPI) lathe. I assume I need a COLLET CHUCK...which leads me to Beall, PSI, CSUSA, etc. The conundrum is this...do I really have to pay another $89 just to get the chuck? I emailed 800WATT to see if he has the appropriate chuck, but no response (surprise!).

An ideas?

Yes you most likely will need to pay about $80 + for a PSI/CSUSA collet chuck. I think most of us buy the collet chuck with the standard collets (which do MOST everything you need) and then suppliment with additional collets to fill in the gaps. I've found the 13/16", 18mm, 19mm,and 20mm to handle most of what I want to do.
WoodNWhimsie sells the PSI at a slight discount. Amazon, when you can catch it right often has the best deal.

I just bought a Collet set and it came with these and I am not sure what to tell you. Did this come with a collet chuck? If not, it seems you would just need to get the chuck to fit your lathe.

Usually everyone buys the collet chuck first either with the collets or without. Then we purchase the needed collets or buy a set like you did.

Cancel your order on ebay and buy the Beale for 85 something. The 5 collets you receive with the chuck will do most things. Then buy specific size collets you may need for different things later on down the road, on the other hand, maybe never would need other sizes.. Carl

I bought the collets from 800 watt also, bought the chuck from beall directly, it has paid for itself over and over! I agree with others, "nuff" said! :-)
