We just signed papers and will be moving to a new home in Eugene, Oregon next month. What is this trouble I speak of?

I will now live close enough to a Woodcraft that I can walk there in 10 minutes.
That and I'll be working from home so a lunch break could easily involve walking there and back.
Pray for my wallet.

Within walking distance:eek: That is very very very bad. You will be on a first name basis there very soon . it will be like Cheers. Hey Scott what will you have.? "I will take a tool or two or three"

Oh, you poor soul you... I am so glad I'm an hour away from any local Woodcraft store or for that matter any store that has pen kits or blanks... good luck....

Now that's a "power lunch"!! It will be kinda hard to carry a new lathe or bandsaw home when you are walking..................
gordon

You don't think I can Iron man it home with a 100lb mini lathe on my back?

I could bring the hand truck and they have a sweet deal on a Rikon Mini right now..

Hey is this slope getting slippery?

Woodcraft sells more than pen kits, blanks etc. Please name one IAP vendor that sells lathes, saws, sharpening stones, grinders and wheels, hand planes, chisels, dust collectors, belt and disc sanders, sandpaper, drill presses, and on and on. Now if the only interest you have is pen turning and you have already got all you need except super blanks and special kits then I can see why you wouldn't deal with them, preferring IAP vendors. But if you are like many of us, we have other interests they can satisfy. That's why I'm so happy to live within 15 minutes of a Lee Valley store. The convenience of getting special, quality tools quickly is priceless.

I'll add that 2 years ago when Marla and I flew to Virginia from Vancouver to go to the MAPG, which was held at the local Woodcraft store for free. Woodcraft set aside and held 2 SawStop cartridges for me for a couple weeks until I got there to buy them. Having stores locally that offer services like that is worth your patronage.

Can't understand why someone would want to make a purchase from a Woodcraft Store when you can get a better deal from one of the IAP Vendors!

True for pen kits and blanks for the most part...

Take last week. I have more blanks than I'll ever be able to turn but my daughter wanted a specific color blank I didn't have and in a kit i don't normally keep around.

I could go online, order a kit and a blank, pay almost what I spent in shipping and then wait a week or take a 10 minute walk down the street.

For my usual activities I go to our vendors and order a bunch of stuff to keep me busy for awhile. For the one offs, oops I broke something and oh no I have 3 days to make a birthday gift situations it's nice to have a local source.

I like going to Woodcraft (and Rockler). As much as I enjoy shopping for woodworking and turning supplies online, it doesn't match the experience of going to a physical store. I used to work close enough to a Woodcraft store to go there at lunch and would do so occasionally but both my employer and Woodcraft moved so my lunch hour visits are over. The weekend visits are better anyway, I have more time!

I like to go to Woodcraft... they may not like for me to come in though, the drool all over their merchandise may be a little off putting to other customers.:rotfl::rotfl:

I don't buy much there though, the budget won't allow for too much and often can find better prices elsewhere....

You might want to fill out a part time employment application for two reasons: (1) help pay the bill (2) keep you busy on weekends and evenings preventing you from turning more wood.
