How do you all finish hybrid blanks? Polish them like acrylic? Finish them like wood? Wet sand? Dry sand?

I use a CA finish on hybrid blanks.
As to "How do you sand them?" ..... no differently that any other blanks ..... just the same, both before applying CA and after applying CA

But with wood, I dry sand. With acrylic, I wet sand. Which should I do on a hybrid blank?

OK, OK ..... I get the point of your question(s) now !! . Sorry I missed that ! . Also sorry that I don't have an answer for you.

I THINK what I do ( memory is short .... sorry for that !!!!! ) ....... is dry sand my hybrids .

I'll make a mental note to tell you ... next time I do one ... but don't count on it ... my mental notes have quite short life-times !!!!

I dry sand the entire blank up to 800. Then apply the CA . Then dry sand 400 to 800. Then MM to 12000. The CA although not necessary for the acrylic portion it would be for the wood portion and the CA give an even finish over the entire blank uniformly. That is how I do it. It works for me.

The same way that I finish wood blanks with CA. I sand them to 2000 dry, then buff them. Remove any buffing residual compound with DNA and apply my CA finish.

You use a buffing compound when you buff them? I'm assuming you use buffing wheels?

Yes, 4 in all: Tripoli, white diamond, and then two increasingly finer compounds. I use the same process on plastics, resins, etc.

This is where I'm at. The first one was sanded to 600. The second one was sanded to 600 then I used two grades of synthetic steel wool. The second one looks a little better to me. Later today, I'll sand to 3000, then use Pens Plus on them.

800-3000 grits (seven grades), then Pens Plus. Doesn't look half bad.

I had a new set of Micro Mesh pads, so I decided to try them on the other body. It may have turned out a tiny bit better, but it's almost impossible to tell. Regardless, I'm very happy with how both turned out. A really good experience with my first hybrid blank.

I keep going through the CA ( wet sanding with 1200g) when using thin CA and quite a few coats. Maybe i should try medium for a few extra layers?

Melamine lacquer is sooo much easier and smells nicer too.
