Hey folks, so here I am in New Orleans. My job has shut down for at least two days. I still have electricity, and I'm bored out of my mind. The worst thing about this hurricane for me is that my lathe is buried in all the lawn furnature I had to stuff in the garage!!! I hope that's the worst thing for me and all the other people in the area. Stay safe gulf coast and other folks affected.

Dave,
Sounds like the hard part so far is waiting..that has got to be a little dreadful in itself.
Hope you all stay safe, and it turns out for the better.
We'll be watching and thinking of everyone in this area!

I know what you mean... we just had our 1st power blip - enough to set off the UPS alarms, and flicker the lights a few times. If I was at the hospital, at least I would have something to fill the time.

This one should be mostly water...and If you live close to the water (gulf, bay, ocean, river etc.) some day you're gonna get wet. Irene, last year picked on the poor folks who don't live close to the sea but live near rivers.

We have good friends who live in New Orleans Got an e-mail from them a while ago, they were expecting power to go out sometime between 8 & 11pm. Already had winds of 60mph, a short distance away winds were 80mph. They're expecting 20" :rain: & apparently the storm is moving slowly so it's going to take a few days to pass over.
Thinking of all you guys in that area! Good luck! Hope all will be well & you'll all be safe.

I know that this may sound a little morbid...but we here in northeast Mississippi was kind of hoping that the hurricane would take the track it took...because we need the rain really bad. But everytime they would come out with a new forecast model they had it going north but further to the west. We started out getting 7 to 9 inches and now I doubt very seriously if we see a half inch. I still say there is a curse on northeast Mississippi.

We're out of electricity at the house - since about 9:45pm Tuesday night. I got called into the hospital this morning. Nice to be in the A/C again...

House and everyone came though ok. Minor damage - fence, couple lost shingles, etc. Nothing major.

Update!!

No electric since Tuesday evening here in plaquamines parish. Also the sewage is starting to back up (Yuck). Our electric distro station (7 miles away) is currently under about 6' of water, so they estimate about 4 to 6 more days before the water drains and they can fix the electricity. With temps up to mid 90s, I said to hell with it and drove to Gulfport. Sitting in a nice air conditioned hotel room and finally got a good shower and boy did I need it. No real damage to my property, so I consider myself very lucky. Hope all of you guys that were affected are doing well.
